101 ACTUAL Dalmations

This is the best idea I’ve ever seen.  If they expand the run to include Portland, Megan and I will be there in a heartbeat.

Leonberger Puppies

My sister wrote me a breathless e-mail (yes, it’s possible) today about her new favorite breed of puppy, the Leonberger.  Originally bred by a German king to resemble lions, these adorable puppies grow up to be 120lb beasts.  I chose this video to introduce you to them (assuming you, like me, hadn’t heard of them before) because it shows both sizes. It’s from a great series about the two dogs that includes such great titles as “Billy & Piper ignore the birdies” and “Billy & Piper Interacting.”

Oh, and as a bonus, here is something inadvisable to do with your Leonberger puppy!

Puppy vs Robot Hamster

I think singing robot animals are my favorite thing that I don’t understand.  From the first time I saw Billy Bass on down through the hot hot lobster that Megan got my for Valentine’s day several years back (which joyfully sung itself into an untimely death), they’ve held a special power over me.  Apparently I’m not alone, as this pomeranian puppy shows.  And, as an added bonus, it’s slipping on tile!  Enjoy!

The Secretary of Puppy - Finally

Update!  Here he is, as promised.

First, I apologize for our silence this last month.  I’d like to say it was because I was busy, but honestly I can’t account for where the time’s gone.

And speaking of things we haven’t heard about in a while, it’s the Secretary of Puppy.  That’s right, after an excruciating post-election tease fest, there are finally leaked details about the Obama family’s dog.  Quoting from MSNBC:

The little guy is a 6-month-old Portuguese water dog given to the Obama girls as a gift by that Portuguese water dog-lovin’ senator himself, Edward M. Kennedy of Massachusetts. The girls named it Bo

Well suited for formal occasions at the White House, he’s got tuxedo-black fur, with a white chest, white paws and a rakish white goatee.

Apparently the White House was planning a grand unveiling on Tuesday, and we’ll have full coverage of it if it happens, but something this good was bound to leak.

Let’s Watch a Movie

The dog I grew up with, Canyon, used to love it when my family got together in the den to watch a movie. He never so much as glanced at the TV and instead kept his eyes locked on the big bowl of popcorn we always made. His perseverance was inevitably rewarded with a handful of kernels, which he scarfed down as fast as he could before going back to gazing intently at the bowl. Once the popcorn was completely gone, he usually curled up at our feet and fell asleep, completely ignoring the images moving on the screen in front of him.

Unlike Canyon, this dog seems to be truly interested in film. Or, more likely, she has trouble distinguishing film from real life. Either way, it’s pretty cute. Enjoy.

I Hope He Got What He Was Chasing

This is dangerously close to “America’s Funniest Home Videos” territory, but it made me smile so I’m posting it.  I don’t know what he’s chasing but I bet it was something great.  Ice cream that makes you skinny maybe?

Thanks to Marianne for passing this my way. Send me your tips!

This Week in Puppy News

NBC’s Nightly News takes any excuse it can get to show puppies on its program.  Aside from mentioning Puppy Cam for at least the third time, there actually was a lot of puppy news this week.  Lester Holt sets us off on a roundup of the good stories:

And then there’s this video released by the White House, crediting Barney with all the Christmas decorations.  I wouldn’t be offended if you called it lame, but at least Barney isn’t hurting anybody.

Best-Ever Puppy Video?

It turns out Brian Williams, host of NBC’s Nightly News, is big fan of puppy videos.  He mentioned the live puppy cam on the his actual broadcast last week, and today his blog referred to this video as the “new best-ever puppy video on the web.”  He’s not afraid of hyperbole, that’s for sure, but he’s also got good taste.  It’s pretty amazing. Enjoy!

Sleeping Puppies (Usually)

This was originally sent to me by CAZ fan Sarah, but since then I’ve noticed it on a handful of other blogs.  Thus, once I post it, it’s officially sweeping the Internet.  It’s not the first puppy-based web cam, but it’s a good one.  Check it out:

These Are Two of Megan’s Favorite Things

I’m considering changing the name of the blog to “stuff Megan likes.”  Here’s a video I found while searching for a combination of Megan’s favorite things: puppies and ice cream.  And boy did I hit the jackpot.  Enjoy.
